A Personal Announcement to Jewish Humor Central Readers from Al Kustanowitz

After publishing Jewish Humor Central for more than 17 years, I am delighted to share a very different kind of project with you.

My new children’s picture book, published worldwide today, is titled The Candle in the Drinking Glass: A Story of Memory, Family, and Tradition.

The story began as a two-and-a-half-page manuscript that I wrote 47 years ago. It has now become a fully illustrated, 48-page book about a curious six-year-old boy who discovers a yahrzeit candle burning in a drinking glass. Through a warm conversation with his father, he begins learning about the grandfather he never knew and about the memories and traditions that connect generations.

Although written for children ages 6–8, it is also intended for parents, grandparents and families to read together.

I hope you will enjoy meeting Jackie, his father and Grandpa Jack—and I would be grateful if you shared this announcement with friends, parents, grandparents and educators who might appreciate the story.

The Candle in the Drinking Glass is published by Murmin Books and is available in paperback and hardcover editions.

You can learn more, watch the one-minute narrated preview and choose among the available purchasing options at:

If the story and its message speak to you, please share this announcement with family and friends.
