Kabbalat Shabbat reaches its climax with Lecha Dodi, which means "Come, my beloved." In this poem, Shabbat is imagined as a bride or a queen. In this video the clergy of New York's Central Synagogue recites four of the nine verses.
And during that final verse, they rise and turn toward the doors, physically welcoming Shabbat in, as a bride would be welcomed coming down the aisle.
During the words, Bo'i kallah, Bo'i kallah (come, O bride), the congregation bows with respect, first to the left. then to the right, embodying reverence and joy.
Enjoy, and Shabbat shalom!
