A Special Virtual Production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

And now for something completely different. Today instead of our usual video of comedy or music that runs for 5 minutes or so, we're sharing a very special hour-long production of the musical comedy Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

This production was put together by a team of more than 40 members of the Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys and the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center's Youth program in California.

With a talented cast of young actors, dancers, and musicians all keeping their distance from one another in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and with the help of some creative computer graphics, the production stays on track with the music and lyrics of the original production.

We think it's  worth the time to watch, and if an hour is too much, you can watch it song by song.

Enjoy!

Passover's Coming...and so are Lots of Questions

The Passover seder is only 16 days away, so we think today is a good day to begin our annual Pesach countdown.

Over the next two weeks we're going to focus on Passover-related topics and bring you as many new videos as we can find to enhance your observance and enjoyment of the eight day holiday (7 days in Israel).

The Jewish Federations of North America can always be counted on to produce and distribute cute and funny videos to encourage giving and helping people as we get closer to Passover.

In this 2015 video, a group of children ask lots of "Why?" questions that will make you smile. Who says there are only four questions to ask on the seder night(s)? The video ends with a basic question -- "Why can't we just help people?" and leaves the answer up to us.

Enjoy!

Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer Reflect on Being Jewish Justices

The 2014 General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America met in Washington, DC this week (November 9-11), and attendees listened to Supreme Court associate justices Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer speak about the significance of being Jewish justices.

Justice Kagan recalled her Bat Mitzvah, the first one conducted by Rabbi Steven (now Shlomo) Riskin at the Lincoln Square Synagogue in New York.

Justice Breyer pondered the connection between Judaism, social justice, and the rule of law.
