Raanana, Kippalive has inspired and entertained audiences across the
globe, including performances on the Israeli X Factor, at the

generated over 10 Million views. To date, Kippalive has released
numerous singles and a critically acclaimed album which has gained
worldwide recognition.
With the Pesach seder only a day away, let's get in the mood with Kippalive singing a medley of traditional seder songs.
We're giving Jewish Humor Central a vacation break for a few days while we celebrate the first two days of Pesach and Shabbat in sunny Florida. We'll be back on Sunday with our usual mix.
Pesach
is coming, and it's coming soon. In six days we will be sitting down to
the seder in Israel, and the first of two sedarim in the diaspora. To
get in the mood, we will be sharing some new music videos for the
holiday right here on Jewish Humor Central. Today we start with Six13's latest entry, A Michael Jackson Passover.Anchored
by a strong Jewish identity and driven by a mission to connect Jews
around the globe with their heritage through music, professional Jewish a
cappella group Six13 are the originators of today's Jewish a cappella
sound.
They've
performed to rave reviews at the White House, and many more at
synagogues, religious schools, JCCs, fundraising events, B'nai Mitzvah
and private affairs alike. They’ve appeared all over mainstream media,
been cited by Billy Joel and Bruno Mars, received numerous awards for
their eight best-selling CDs, been selected as finalists for casting in
NBC's "The Sing-Off", and garnered more than 20 million views online.
As we start the countdown to next Wednesday's seder, come and moonwalk right out of Egypt with Six13's Pesach homage to the King of Pop. Ponder the meaning of maror and... Bubbe Jeanne ???
Koolulam is a social-musical project that aims to strengthen our society by strengthening the bonds between the people who make it up.Koolulam invites people from all walks of life to do one thing - stop everything for an hour and simply sing, together.
For those who are not familiar with
the concept of Koolulam, it is a gathering where the musicians on
stage teach the audience to perform a well-known song according to a
special arrangement they wrote, with harmonies and vocal roles that are
divided into different groups in the audience.
At the end of the learning process, the band and the audience together perform the song in its entirety.
Here's a video of a recent performance of "Start From the Beginning" in the Moadon Gray auditorium in the city of Modi'in in Israel. The song expresses an optimistic view that even in difficult times, even though there's a way to go, in the end the flowers will bloom again, and everything will be all right.
The Yiddish folk love song Tumbalalaika
originated in Eastern Europe in the 19th century, but its exact origin
is hard to pinpoint. That hasn't prevented it from being sung and played
over and over, not only in places where Yiddish songs are sung, but
just about everywhere in the world, in vocal and instrumental versions,
in cabarets and in the movies.
Just as we have followed the songs Hava Nagila, Adon Olam, Hevenu Shalom Aleichem, and Abanibi
as they took different forms as interpreted by a wide variety of
singers, musicians, and dancers, we're continuing the series today that we started back in 2012, sharing our 29th version of this
universal courting and love
song.
This version is sung by ApiChorus, Harvard's premier Jewish a Cappella Group and an affiliated student organization of Harvard Hillel. Founded in 2023, ApiChorus is a coed group comprised of current students at Harvard University. They sing a diverse repertoire of Hebrew and English classics, represent a broad range of Jewish backgrounds, and perform at venues locally in Cambridge as well as in concerts across the globe.

Here's their latest Passover video, PSVR, a parody of Bruno Mars and Rose's pop hit APT.

Six13 helps us to get ready for the reading of Megillat Esther tonight and tomorrow with a rousing medley of songs for Purim.
With so many Jewish singing groups coming up with Chanukah parodies and new lyrics for songs from the hit movie Wicked, we expected one from the Maccabeats and here it is.
In 2010 The Maccabeats, an a cappella group from Yeshiva University, released their first Hanukkah music video, Candlelight, and every Hanukkah (and other holidays) since then we've seen many more videos by them and lots of other groups.
Originally
formed in 2007 as Yeshiva University’s student vocal group,
the Maccabeats have recently emerged as both Jewish music and a cappella
phenomena, with a large fan base, more than 20 million views on
YouTube, numerous TV appearances, and proven success with three albums,
2010′s Voices From The Heights, 2012′s Out Of The Box and 2014′s One Day More. Many of their songs are parodies of pop hits, and this Chanukah they're continuing the tradition withnew lyrics for the movie's signature song Defying Gravity that celebrates the spirit of the Jewish people. The lyrics appear below. Enjoy!
Lyrics
Some things have changed around us
Some things have stayed the same
Through every change we’ve weathered
Our spirit always burns the same.
When shadows rise to meet us
Our flame will burn through the night
An ancient spark ignites
And fills the void with light.
We’ll rise above, defying gravity
Through every trial defying gravity
And they won’t bring us down.
Our light will continue to shine
this flame is no trick or delusion
Never accepted limits,
Cause someone says they're so
Thousands of years so far
But we’ve still got a ways to go.
No time to be afraid of
Those who’d try to see us gone
They didn’t know the strength that we’ve had all along.
The
a Cappella group Six13 is bringing some much-needed light into the
world with a fun medley of songs from the hit movie Wicked, with Chanukah lyrics replacing the Wicked originals.
Six13 is a six-man vocal band that brings an unprecedented style of
Jewish music to the stage, with songs ranging from hip-hop dance tracks
to rock anthems. The members of the New York City-based group sound like
a full band – while using nothing but their voices.

Now Six13 has released a rousing, energetic new musical video for Rosh Hashana titled "5785". It's a takeoff on the song "1985" by rock band Bowling for Soup, whose name is a takeoff on a comedy routine by Steve Martin with a title that we can't print here.
This is our last musical video for Rosh Hashanah 5785. Tomorrow we'll post our annual personal family greeting to our readers.
Founded

together to perform a repertoire ranging from English and Israeli pop to

In today's video, we join Kol Sasson in welcoming Shabbat with Yedid Nefesh, a preliminary poem to the Kabbalat Shabbat service.
Enjoy, and Shabbat shalom!

Avinu Shebashamaim, the Prayer for the State of Israel, is usually sung in the Shabbat morning service. It is also sung at special days, such as Yom HaAtzmaut, and other days when congregations unite to show support for the State of Israel and the people of Israel.
As we get ready for Shabbat, let's watch Alexander Tsaliuk conduct the Moscow Male a Cappella Choir singing Avinu Shebashamaim at a performance a few days ago to commemorate Yom Hazikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut. The concert was at the Memorial Synagogue on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow with soloists Cantor Uriel Granat and Vladislav Ayrapetyan.

On
November 14, at the end of the march and rally for Israel on the mall

As
for our brothers, the whole house of Israel, who are given over to
trouble or captivity, whether they abide on the sea or on the dry land:
May
the All-present have mercy upon them, and bring them forth from
distress to relief, from darkness to light, and from subjection
to redemption, now speedily and at a near time.

When words fail, as they often have after the events of the past weeks, we turn to song and prayer.
This week three of the most popular Jewish a cappella groups -- The Maccabeats, Six13, and J-Studs -- have combined their voices to perform Avinu SheBashamayim, the Prayer for the Welfare of the State of Israel.
Sending comfort to the bereaved, wishes for a speedy return of the hostages, and prayers for the safety for our brave brothers and sisters called up to protect Eretz Yisrael. Am Yisrael Chai!

Tonight is the start of Yom Hazikaron, Israel's Memorial Day, which lasts until Tuesday evening. All schools have special plays and ceremonies on Yom HaZikaron,
enacted into law in 1963.
While the day has been traditionally
dedicated to fallen soldiers, commemoration has also been extended to
civilian victims of terrorism.
As the sad day ends, the country is transformed at nightfall into all
night partying that lasts through the following day to commemorate the
founding of the state 75 years ago. At
many of the memorial ceremonies, names are read, photos projected on
screens and walls, prayers are read and appropriate songs are sung. We're doing our part at Jewish Humor Central on Yom HaZikaron, by abstaining from humor for the day and posting a rendition of the Prayer for the Welfare of Soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) by the a cappella group Six 13 and Cantor Chaim Dovid Berson.
Mi Sheberach is a prayer for the soldiers of Israel's Defense Forces that is sung to the tune of El Eretz Tzvi by Yehoram Gaon.

Tonight we welcome Shabbat with an a cappella version of Yedid Nefesh, part of the Kabbalat Shabbat service. It's a beautiful rendition by Magevet.
Founded in 1993, Magevet is one of the nation’s premiere
Jewish a cappella singing groups. A coed ensemble comprised of
undergraduate students at Yale University, Magevet is known for its
sweet blend of voices, unique arrangements, and lighthearted sense of
humor.
The group’s diverse repertoire
spans modern Israeli pop and Renaissance choral pieces to Yiddish folk
tunes and Zionist classics. The members of Magevet are equally diverse:
engineers and historians, Jews and Gentiles, New Yorkers and
Californians, all united by camaraderie and a love of singing.
