J-Sketch Comedy: The Matchmaker

Jewish sketch comedy has arrived, live in comedy clubs and in videos posted on You Tube. A good example of this new comedy, focused mainly on the Modern Orthodox Jewish community, is the comedy trio of Eli Lebowicz, Ami Kozak, and Mikey Greenblatt, who created J-Sketch.

Today's video finds matchmaker Avigail in an all too realistic sketch. She's trying to find the perfect match for Guy, who sees himself as an overconfident guy who likes to mix it up. He's looking for a girl who's half blonde and half brunette, tall but also small, part Ashkenazi and part Sephardi, who plays hard to get but is also hard to find -- you get the idea.

Many of us have seen this process play out in real life and will find it very relatable and funny, especially when viewing it as an outside observer.

Enjoy!

J-Sketch Comedy: Explaining the Jewish Holiday Schedule to Your Boss

Jewish sketch comedy has arrived, live in comedy clubs and in videos posted on You Tube. A good example of this new comedy, focused mainly on the Modern Orthodox Jewish community, is the comedy trio of Eli Lebowicz, Ami Kozak, and Mikey Greenblatt, who created J-Sketch.

Last week they shared the stage of The Seven Crest, an event space in Teaneck, New Jersey, with four other stand-up comedians for an evening of laughter.

In today's video, the comedy trio is joined by veteran Jewish comedian Elon Gold in an all too realistic sketch. It's a new employee explaining the Jewish holiday schedule to bosses for whom the seemingly endless requests for days off to observe holidays is a not so welcome surprise.

Many of us have had this experience in our own careers and will find it very relatable and funny, especially when viewing it as an outside observer.

Enjoy!

Comedy Showcase: Orthodox Comic Eli Lebowicz at Standup NY

We last posted a stand-up comedy routine by Eli Lebowicz in 2012, when he was a senior at Yeshiva University. Since then, Eli has been performing at comedy clubs in New York City, college campuses along the East Coast, synagogue dinners, Passover programs, and Jewish events where there's food.

Eli's comedy is becoming popular with audiences that are looking for funny but clean humor, a combination that's becoming harder to find these days. He will be performing this Saturday night, February 2, at a Chabad of Orange County Comedy Night in Goshen, New York.

Here's Eli performing recently for a Jewish audience at the Stand Up NY Comedy Club. Enjoy!

Comedy Showcase: Meet Eli Lebowicz, Standup Comic

Whenever we discover comedy clips from a comedian we haven't seen before, we like to profile the comedian for our readers to meet. Today we ran across some videos of stand-up comedy by Eli Lebowicz at Standup NY, an Upper West Side comedy club in New York City.

Eli Lebowicz is a senior in at Yeshiva University, where he co-founded its first satire magazine, The Quipster. He is originally from Chicago and has been doing comedy for about a year and a half. He has performed all around New York City, at clubs like Standup NY, Comix, and Caroline's.

Eli has many clips of his comedy routines on YouTube. He jokes that most of the views come from his dad trying to figure out how to use YouTube.

Here is Eli's family-friendly routine that we'd like to share with you. Enjoy!
