We've shared 24 versions of the classic Hebrew song Hevenu Shalom Aleichem with you over the years. But we keep finding new renditions just as we've found 127 versions of Hava Nagila and 12 of Hinei Ma Tov. Here's a performance of Hevenu Shalom Aleichem by a large group of children in South Korea.
Hevenu
Shalom Aleichem is one of the most widely played and sung Hebrew songs
around the world, probably second only to Hava Nagila. We have been
sharing versions of this song as performed in India, Guatemala, Australia, Korea, Belarus, and in an Irish pub.
Today we came across another posting of this song, the 24th that we've shared with you. It was posted by Canterbury Voices, a chorus based in Oklahoma.
Canterbury Voices was founded in May 1969 as Canterbury Choral Society. The 165-member Adult Chorus is the flagship program of the organization and the largest of its kind in the state of Oklahoma. All singers are auditioned and most have extensive musical and stage experience.
The Adult Chorus collaborates with many sister arts agencies like the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Ballet, and Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra, as well as many talented singers and musicians from around the United States including, Kelli O’Hara, Sarah Coburn and Ron Raines.

Hevenu Shalom Aleichem is such a
popular Hebrew song that it's sung all over the world. Over the years we've shared videos of it being performed in Indonesia, by Mayan children in Guatemala, and in a Korean musical stage show.
So we weren't too surprised to come across another rendition of this song by students in Nepal. It's coupled with them singing Shabbat Shalom.

Hevenu Shalom Aleichem has traveled all over the world and has been played and sung in more countries than any Hebrew song except for Hava Nagila.
Since we started Jewish Humor Central 12 years ago we have shared versions from 20 countries. Today we're sharing a recent performance of this popular song by the native string ensemble of the Philippines. It's called a rondalla, and it consists of plectrum instruments such as the
bandurria, laud, octavina, mandola, guitarra, and bajo de uńas
(supplanted today by the regular double bass).
The New Jersey-based University of the Philippines Alumni & Friends
Rondalla was established in 1992 as a cultural/educational
nonprofit organization. Its membership later expanded to
include non-alumni and interested friends age seven and older. Pieces
range from simple folk songs and dances, to beautiful symphonic
arrangements of beloved Philippine kundimans, Broadway, classical,
religious, popular tunes, and well-known melodies from around the world.

In Lviv, the largest city in Ukraine, a band of musicians originally called Varnitshkes renamed themselves Shtrudl Band.
Last week they created a music video of a new version of Hevenu Shalom Aleichem composed by Parisian composer Itai Daniel. The recording was inspired by the
"Teyva" Progressive Judaism Community, and all-out support of the
"Dialog" program by "Libertas" Interfaith and Interreligious Center.
The musical piece is based on
David's Psalm No.133 Hinei ma tov u'ma naim ("Look how good and pleasant it is when brothers
live together in unity") and the lyrics of the Hebrew folk song Hevenu
Shalom Aleichem which says "we brought you peace".

The singers are all members of the European Association of Jewish Choirs.

Hevenu Shalom Aleichem has traveled all over the world and has been played and sung in more countries than any Hebrew song except for Hava Nagila.
Choral singing has been challenging to many choirs during the coronavirus pandemic, but some choral groups have persisted in singing while social distancing. A good example is the Coral Brigantino in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
For our 18th post of this popular Hebrew song of greeting and peace, let's take a trip to Braganca Paulista, a municipality in the state of Sao Paulo and watch the safely separated members of the Coral Brigantino sing Hevenu Shalom Aleichem.

And of course, it's still performed all over Israel. Today we're bringing you a version by Algerian musician Mehdi Ryan, a master of the derbouka.
The derbouka is a single head membranophone with a goblet shaped body used mostly in Egypt, also in parts of the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Europe.
Mehdi Ryan, at just 26 years old, is a prodigious young musician. A very talented percussionist specializing in Derbouka, he discovered the derbouka at the age of 5 and made it his favorite instrument. Here he is playing Hevenu Shalom Aleichem at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, a school for the music and the performing arts in
Jerusalem. It is located on the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem.

built on a varied repertoire consisting of famous traditional songs, as
well as a large selection of original songs mostly themed around social
issues. After their performances they work with boys in their
neighborhood, acting as mentors and role models to involve the boys in
constructive activities.
In this video they sing three Hebrew songs: Hevenu Shalom Aleichem, Mikimi, and Ki Va Moed.

On May 24, 2018, 2,000 young Jews from around the world arrived at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv as part of Birthright Israel's 18th year. Marking 85 years of activity, the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance decided to celebrate Israel's 70th anniversary and surprise them with a very warm welcome. The Festival de
Bandas, a band festival, has been taking place in the city of Condom, in the Gers region of southwest France on
the second weekend of May for 44 years. It's the largest gathering of brass and
percussion marching bands from southwest France, held in a convivial
atmosphere.
This year's festival
featured a band called Les Bundy's playing Hevenu Shalom Aleichem. The group's membership is about 20 musicians whose
average age is 20 years (some friends are pleased to lend a hand too!).
Their
repertoire includes traditional banda tunes, pasodobles, but also music of the
Blues
Brothers, Louie Louie, Joe Dassin, Elvis Presley, with Latin accents (Caravan,
Tequila, Yolanda, La Belle Image, sambas , Slavic (kasatchok, Shalom Aleichem),
disco (ABBA, Flashdance, Full monty), and even ska.
The band mainly
performs in the Gers on special occasions, but they sometimes venture out of
Gascogne and even go as far as Catalan country and the capital (International
Salon of Agriculture). They also performed at the Shanghai World Expo 2011 in
the French Pavilion.

We came across a version of Hevenu Shalom Aleichem performed at a concert in Belgium by Helmut Lotti, a Belgian tenor and singer-songwriter. He performs in several styles and languages.
Once
an Elvis impersonator, he has sung African and Latino hit records, and
he crossed over into classical music in the 1990s. Lotti sings fluently in his mother language Dutch, as well as Afrikaans, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. He has sold over 13 million albums worldwide and received over 90 platinum and 70 gold albums.
Lotti does volunteer work as an ambassador for UNICEF.

Over the years we've come across renditions of the Hebrew song Hevenu Shalom Aleichem in unexpected locations around the world. But none has been as unique as our discovery of this version in a chanting mantra in a part of India that you probably never heard of.
The video below was made in Auroville, an experimental township in Viluppuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, near Puducherry in South India. It was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (known as "The Mother") and designed by architect Roger Anger.
As stated in Alfassa's first public message about the township,
"Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all
countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all
creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is
to realize human unity."
Although originally intended to house 50,000, as of May 2014 the actual
population was 2,345 (1,804 adults and 541 minors), coming from 50
nationalities including 86 Americans and 31 Israelis. The community is divided up into neighborhoods with Tamil, English, French and Sanskrit names like Aspiration, Arati, La Ferme, Auromodel and Isaiambalam.
So if Hevenu Shalom Aleichem were to appear as a chanting mantra anywhere in the world, it shouldn't come as a surprise that it would happen in Auroville, India. The chant is led by Israeli singer Niva Harel. Enjoy! SPECIAL NOTE FOR NEW EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS:

We've shared lots of versions of the classic Hebrew song Hevenu Shalom Aleichem with you over the years. But we keep finding new renditions just as we've found many versions of Hava Nagila (over 50) and Hinei Ma Tov. Here's a rocking performance of Hevenu Shalom Aleichem by a German band called Big Fat Shakin' at the Clarchers Ballhaus, a live music and dance venue in Berlin. This song really gets around. Enjoy!

Back in November 2009, when Jewish Humor Central was just getting started and we had just a handful of subscribers, we posted a spirited version of Hava Nagila performed by the Cornerstone Orchestra and Choir.
The musicians are members of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), based in San Antonio, Texas, home of Pastor John Hagee's Cornerstone Church CUFI has held Nights to Honor Israel in cities
all across America since February 2006. The evenings attract thousands
of Christians who rally to support Israel and contribute millions of
dollars every year to Israeli charities. Today we found the complete medley of Hebrew songs that ended with the rendition of Hava Nagila. Here is a
medley that's unlike any you've heard. Besides Hava Nagila, it includes Mayim Mayim, Eleh Chomdo Libi, David Melech Yisrael, Nigun Atik, and Hevenu Shalom Aleichem. Wanna get pumped up and
