Comedy Showcase: Orny Adams' First Appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Orny Adams (Adam Jason Orenstein) delivers a powerful, incisive stand-up routine that vacillates between the relevant and the absurd. Orny attacks what’s wrong with the world and sometimes even what’s wrong with Orny. He’s brutally honest, satirical and his performance is ceaselessly energetic.

We first ran into Orny Adams at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. We previously posted a comedy clip of Orny in one of his Showtime specials. Orny has been performing on late night TV shows and other comedy venues, and he's a regular at the Just for Laughs Festival.

Here's an excerpt from his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2007.

Wacky Wednesday Comedy Special: A Classic Buddy Hackett Joke with Johnny Carson

When it came to wacky comedy, no comedian could come close to Buddy Hackett. Whether you encountered hm in a nightclub, on television, or in his hilarious movies, Buddy had the talent to make you roll on the floor laughing.

One of his favorite haunts was the Johnny Carson Show, where he made many appearances. There was always a tension between Buddy and Johnny, with Johnny nervous about how close Buddy's joke would be to going over the line where clean comedy ended.

In this appearance on the Carson show, Buddy delivered one of his classic jokes, "I'll do anything for $200."

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday Comedy Special: Buddy Hackett on the Johnny Carson Show in 1978

We thought that we had run out of Buddy Hackett videos and were pleasantly surprised to find another batch of Buddy's appearances on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show. It's rare to find a Hackett video these days, especially one that's clean.

So go back with us 41 years to 1978 when Buddy made one of his visits to Carson's late night show.

In this episode, Buddy tells stories about an unusual treatment for severe headache pain and his new vegetarian diet.

Throwback Thursday Comedy Special: Rita Rudner on The Tonight Show in 1986

One of the hallmarks of Rita Rudner's comedy is that it's clean, free from the vulgarity and shouting that many stand-up comics find necessary.  Sure, there's usually some sexual innuendo but her delivery is demure, tasteful, full of wry observations, and very funny.

Rudner started her career as a dancer, then switched to stand-up comedy about her dating experiences.  She married British producer Martin Bergman and now they have a daughter.  She is fond of Jewish humor but generally reserves it for when she performs for Jewish audiences.

For this Throwback Thursday we're going back 32 years to 1986 (gosh, has she been performing that long?) when she made an appearance on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show.

Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday Comedy Special: The 2000 Year Old Man Meets Jay Leno

In 1997 Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks published a book and CD titled The 2000 Year Old Man in the Year 2000. The 2000 Year Old Man skit was originally created in 1961 at Brooks' beachfront house in Fire Island.

Brooks had just undergone surgery for gout. Because of his post-surgical discomfort, Brooks quipped, "I feel like a 2000-year-old man," which led Reiner to begin questioning him about what it's like to be a 2000-year-old man and to describe history as Brooks saw it.

To promote the book and CD, the duo made an appearance on Jay Leno's Tonight Show. They performed an updated version of the skit and then went on to explain how they got the famous campfire flatulence scene in Blazing Saddles past the censors.
