Throwback Thursday Comedy Special: Sid Caesar as the Professor on Magic

Sid Caesar left a treasure trove of  video clips of some of his funniest character portrayals and skits from his own Your Show of Shows and Caesar's Hour and from his appearances with sidekick Carl Reiner on the Ed Sullivan Show and other TV specials.

We've already run some of his most famous comedy routines and we'll be tapping into the collection for more of them from time to time.

Today we're visiting once again with one of Sid's most endearing characters, the wisecracking and loopy Viennese  professor Hocus VonPocus, interviewed by the persistent and straight-talking Carl Reiner.

In this video Reiner asks the professor to perform some magic, with hilarious results.
Enjoy!

A Classic Revisited: Billy Crystal, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jimmy Fallon as the "Who's On First" Team

We're all familiar with the original "Who's on First" skit made famous by Abbott and Costello. Last month we posted a remake of it featuring Buddy Hackett and Harvey Korman.

We don't know how many other versions are floating around the Internet, but we were glad to find a version we hadn't seen before with Billy Crystal, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jimmy Fallon.

In this version, the players with the names "Who," "What," and "I Don't Know" make personal appearances as their names are mentioned. The audience at Fallon's Late Night program was roaring with laughter and we hope you will, too.

Enjoy!

Comedy Flashback: Buddy Hackett as Lou Costello in "Who's on First" Routine

When the producers of the Abbott and Costello planned the film biography Bud and Lou - Comedy is No Laughing Matter in 1978, they picked two Jewish comedians to play the roles of comedy legends Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. Harvey Korman was cast as Abbott, and Buddy Hackett as Costello.

Hackett and Korman appeared on Dick Clark's Live Wednesday show that year to perform the "Who's on First" routine on the Dick Clark Show. It was a live rendition of the same routine that they did in the film

The "Who's on First" routine is probably the most viewed of all comedy skits. So which version do you think is funnier, the film biography version or the original? We located both versions and we're sharing them below. Take a look and let us know which you think is funnier.

We won't be posting on Wednesday and Thursday because we're taking a couple of days off to observe the holiday of Shavuot, which includes attending a series of lectures all through the first night of the two-day yom tov, and consuming copious quantities of cheesecake to make the learning go down more smoothly.

Enjoy, and we'll see you again on Thursday with the usual mix of jokes, impossible but true anecdotes, and lots more.
