Conan O'Brien Throws Himself a Bar Mitzvah Party in Israel

When American comedian and late night show host Conan O'Brien visited Israel last year, he briefly explored the possibility of conversion to Judaism so he could become a bar mitzvah. But he had only 90 minutes to spend.

At Tel Aviv's Tel Baruch Central Synagogue, Rabbi Dov Halbertal breaks it to Conan that he can’t convert to Judaism in 90 minutes — but that won't stop Conan from throwing himself a bar mitzvah party.

A somewhat serious Rabbi Halbertal takes Conan through the actual requirements for a legitimate conversion, but gladly participates in the funny but respectful reactions of the Irish red-headed comedian.

Project Seventy Will Bring 70 Unusual Videos to Celebrate Israel's 70th Birthday

As Israelis get ready to approach the state’s 70th birthday, many people are celebrating. Israel has existed for thousands of years. Due to Israelis returning to their homes and land in modern times, people have good reason to celebrate. A lot has happened in the past seventy years. 

Australian  globetrotter and energetic personality Joseph Waks moved to Miami via Europe and set out to travel more and more in Israel. Somewhere along the way this project began out of just pure love for the adventures, the people, the land, nature, and creativity of the Israeli people.

We'll be following Joseph's videos for Project Seventy as he travels throughout Israel and posts videos of his adventures in out of the way places. Between now and Israel's 70th birthday we'll pick some of the best and share them with you. Here is a taste of what you'll be seeing.

Conan O'Brien's El Al Encounter en Route to Israel - Second of a Series

Late night talk show host Conan O'Brien is spending a week in Israel filming a Conan Without Borders travel show to be aired in September.

We're following his antics as he boards an El Al plane and brings his comedy to Israel.

In this video clip, second of the series, he has an encounter with the toilet on an El Al plane in flight. After spending an hour and a half in the toilet to get a suitable video sequence, he offers some very creative interpretations of the Hebrew words on the towel disposal bin and lotion dispenser. Meanwhile, an El Al passenger, not known for patience, bangs on the door repeatedly to try to gain access.

We'll be sharing more of his funny videos with you over the next few weeks. Next episode: The Tel Aviv skyline and shakshuka.

Musical Showcase: A Jazzy Independence Day Tour of Jerusalem with The Betty Bears

Jerusalem is the pulsating heart of Israel's story throughout history, where old and new, East and West, religious and secular, all meet. 

To celebrate Israel's 69th Independence Day, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has produced Meet Me in Jerusalem, a swinging, singing, dancing tour through the beautiful capital of Israel. 

The music is by Jerusalem's own Betty Bears, a jazz band of 7 Bears and 1 Betty, led by singer Ella Daniel. The green-clad dancer is Jerusalem-born Tamar Sonn, a graduate of the Music and Dance Academy. The choreographer & mustached dancer is Nadav Zelner, who graduated with honors from Telma Ya'alin - Arts school. The project was produced by "The Hive" boutique Film & Animation Studio.

Comedy For Koby Comes to New Jersey For the First Time

Regular readers of Jewish Humor Central know all about Comedy For Koby. During the seven years that we've been blogging here, we've posted seven videos about the show that comedian Avi Liberman brings to Israel twice a year.

Liberman has been bringing groups of American comedians to Israel since 2002 to raise money for multiple charities, most recently for the Koby Mandell Foundation, which works on behalf of terror victims' families.
 
The foundation is named after the 13-year-old who was murdered by terrorists near his Tekoa home on May 8, 2001.

This week Comedy For Koby is coming to Bergen County, New Jersey. The show will be held on Saturday Night, November 12, 2016, at 8pm, at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck. The outstanding lineup features some of America's top comedians: Butch Bradley, Ryan Hamilton and Dan Naturman, and hosted by Avi Liberman. The event will be preceded by a wine and dessert reception. 

In December Liberman is bringing the show to six cities in Israel. 

In this video, The Big Falafel's Molly Livingstone interviews Avi Liberman before the show that he produced in Israel earlier this year.

Classic Israeli Sketch Comedy: Ktzarim - "The Diagnosis"

We like to show the lighter side of Israel, in TV comedy, funny commercials, and everyday happenings. 

During the six years that we've been producing Jewish Humor Central, we've shared funny episodes of TV shows like The Jews are Coming, Eretz Nehederet, and Ktzarim, whenever we could find them with English translations.

Ktzarim (Hebrew: קצרים‎, lit. Shorts) is an Israeli sketch comedy series, broadcast on Channel 2, and based on the British comedy show The Sketch Show. The show is a series of sketches, often with a punch line at the end.

Funny Life in Israel: Episode 1 - With the Soldiers

We always say that Israel is a funny country. We wrote a book on the subject and created an hour-long comedy lecture with video clips to drive the point home.

Now we find that we have company in bringing the funny side of Israel to an audience that enjoys funny video clips about life in the Holy Land.

Jacob Barbasch, (Aika) Ignez Francesca Belgica and Dotan Jakoby created, wrote, and filmed a series of three short videos that show the funny side of being in Israel with this amusing guide to survival as a foreigner in the Holy Land. The videos are offbeat and show how cultures collide as they take an outsider's look at Israeli society.

The first video in the series takes a funny look at aspects of being a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces.
