Comedy Showcase: Ariel Elias on Jewish and Christian Holidays and Miracles

Ariel Elias is a comedian living in New York City. Growing up, this Kentucky Jew made everyone laugh at her bat mitzvah, and the rest is history.

Today, her comedy is a fun mesh of unique, personal stories mixed with witty and wry observations. Described as “a sly young comic from Kentucky” by the "New York Times", Ariel has also been featured in "Rolling Stone", the "Washington Post", and on "Good Morning America".

As a traveling stand up comedian, she has performed on the set of the "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and was named a “New Face” at the 2021 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.

After catching Jimmy Kimmel’s attention with a viral stand-up clip that displayed her cool, calm, and hilarious composure, he invited Ariel to make her late night television debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

In this clip from her comedy special debut, Ariel contrasts Jewish and Christian holidays and miracles. Enjoy!

Comedy Showcase: Meet Raanan Hershberg, Kentucky Comedian

Raanan Hershberg is a loud, neurotic Jew from Louisville, KY. He has performed his high-energy, joke-packed comedy on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Late, Late Show with James Corden, and Comedy Central.

His latest special ‘Jokes from the Underground’ was just included in the New York Times ‘Best Comedy of 2022’, where critic Jason Zinoman called it the funniest YouTube Special of the year, and said  ‘his punchy and deliriously funny club comedy made me laugh after second and third viewings.’ His first special ‘Downhill Ever Since’ is almost at 200K views on YouTube. Raanan performs all over the world and is a regular at The Comedy Cellar.

In this video clip from The Tonight Show, Raanan rants about sobriety and getting older in America.

Enjoy!

The New Jewish Comedians: Meet Ariel Kagan, Standup Comic

We've been posting clips of Jewish comedians going back to the days of vaudeville and burlesque, from Jack Benny to Alan King, and including dozens more. We've posted many of them since we started Jewish Humor Central 14 years ago.

But a new generation of Jewish comedians is on the rise. And they're very funny. It's a rare one who can get through a routine without off-color words or phrases, but some are trying very hard to let the jokes and situations carry the day without resorting to outright foul language.

Some of the new comedians are only new to us, since we haven't been watching all the late night TV shows and going to comedy clubs where they make their first appearances. But as we discover them, we'll share some of their video clips with you.

Today we're sharing a video clip of Ariel Kagan. Ariel grew up and learned the basics of the trade in his hometown of Johannesburg, South Africa. He moved to Toronto in late 2012.

Ariel started to notice the ease with which people give advice to their friends, but concluded that much of it is very paradoxical and nonsense. So he set out to illustrate the many ways that people brandish advice.

Enjoy!

Today we're sharing a video clip of Emily Azrael, who tells comedy club audiences about the Jewish dating scene in New York. Emily has been making the rounds of comedy clubs, delivering this set about her dating encounters and awkward conversations with her mother.
