A Star Wars Video for Purim - Return of the Jewdi by Temple Beth Shalom - Annapolis Maryland

Purim is only four days away, so it's time to share some new funny Purim content. It's traditional to have funny Purim plays (Purimshpiel) to accompany the megillah reading, which this year occurs on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

We're always on the lookout for original Purim content to share with you. So far this year we haven't seen many new video satires and spoofs. Maybe it's because of the ongoing war in Israel. But we're supposed to increase our joy during the month of Adar, so we keep looking for humor to share.

Here's a shout out to the BAYTY Senior Youth Group of Temple Beth Shalom in Annapolis, Maryland, who put lots of effort into creating a Star Wars parody called Return of the Jewdi featuring Darth Haman and Jabba the Hutt as King Ahasuerus.

Special effects include realistic battles with light sabers and the Temple's rabbi as the voice of King Jabba.

Kol Hakavod to the Purim players! Enjoy!

A Funny Retelling of the Purim Story by the Glickman Family

Jeff and Ilana Glickman have been producing slick Purim shpiels for the past six years. Every Purim they post a short film filled with parody, original costumes, and lots of shtick comedy.

We just discovered their productions and we're posting their latest Purim Shpiel, a funny retelling of the Purim story featuring their cute children who try to stay to the script but need just a bit of prompting to keep on track.

Each year's production is unique and features some professional looking costumes and props. Previous shpiels included fat suits and realistic firearms. We're keeping the clips in reserve for sharing on future Purim holidays.

Enjoy!

A.K.A. Pella Music Video for Purim: "What Does Haman Say?"

Only two more days to Purim! We're winding up our Purim music videothon with two very well done productions, one today and the last one on Sunday. Today's selection is by an a cappella group called A.K.A. Pella.

Their song, What Does Haman Say, retells the Purim story in rhyme, inspired by the immensely popular song by Ylivis, What Does the Fox Say, which became a global phenomenon with more than 380 million views since its release on YouTube last September.

As an a cappella group, A.K.A. Pella usually sings without musical accompaniment, but since Purim is a topsy-turvy festival, they make an exception and go for orchestration in this video.

Enjoy!

(A tip of the kippah to Jack Kustanowitz for bringing this video to our attention.)

"Frozen Chosen" - Purim Parody of Oscar-Winning Song "Let it Go"

With all the attention being given to the Oscar-winning animated movie Frozen and its Oscar-winning original song Let it Go, we were sure that Purimshpiels across the country would use it as the focus of a retelling of the Purim story.

We didn't have to wait long. Just a few days ago Anshe Emet Synagogue of Chicago posted their version of the song in a Purim music video and we're glad to give them more exposure by sharing it with you.

Just in case you're not familiar with the original song (probably because you don't have daughters or granddaughters who have seen the movie five times already), we're including the Let it Go video clip from the movie below the parody version.

Enjoy!
