We continue to be amazed by the number of countries where Hava Nagila has been performed. This is the 120th rendition of the popular Hebrew song that we've posted since starting Jewish Humor Central in 2009.

Here's the latest version that we just found, a concert performance a few days ago by the Veritas Choir of the Catholic University of Korea.

Jewish Traces in Unexpected Places: Hava Nagila on Ocarina in South Korea

One of the joys of posting videos on Jewish Humor Central is discovering new versions of traditional Jewish and Hebrew songs as they are performed around the world, often in unexpected places.

Since we started Jewish Humor Central 13 years ago we have posted 103 different versions of Hava Nagila. The song has shown up in many countries, including some unexpected ones (Scroll down the left column on this page and click on "Hava Nagila" in the Keywords list and you'll see what we mean.)

Today we're posting our 104th version of Hava Nagila as played on a South Korea TV show this week on the ocarina, a woodwind musical instrument that is closed at both sides to produce an enclosed space, and punctured with finger holes. on a TV show in South Korea.

Enjoy!

Jewish Traces in Unexpected Places: South Korea Includes Hava Nagila in Pop Music Concert

Pop music has always been popular in South Korea. They have a TV station (Korea Broadcasting System) specializing in this music. There are boy bands, girl bands, soloists, and songs that feature a wide variety of musical styles.

This week they broadcast an "open concert" that included many Korean songs and songs from Broadway shows and American pop music.

How Hava Nagila found its way into the mix we can't figure out, but somehow it did, in a lively production number featuring popular singers Kim Na-Young and Kim Dong-Kyu.

Enjoy!

Jewish Traces in Unexpected Places: Shalom Aleichem in the Streets of Seoul, South Korea

Busking, or street performing, is a specialty in the Hongdae area of Seoul, South Korea. Latest trends show dancing and other performances beyond music. These performances often require active involvement of the audience.

Rahel, an Israeli guitarist, has performed many Hebrew songs in the streets of Seoul and also at the beach in Busan. We found a recent rendition of Shalom Aleichem that we're sharing with you today to welcome another Shabbat.

Enjoy, and Shabbat Shalom!
