How Does the IDF Celebrate Purim? By Break Dancing!

Purim is almost here, and IDF soldiers don't want to miss the celebration!

As Jews all over the world celebrate this holiday by holding feasts, exchanging gifts and wearing costumes, soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces make sure to keep the holiday tradition in any way they can.

A couple of years ago, they made this video of putting the soul in soldier by doing a breakdance in honor of the holiday.

Enjoy!

Passover Videos: Dvir Rozen and Israel's Technion Tell the Passover Story in a New High-Tech Way

Breakdancing has become popular in Israel over the last few years.  Dvir Rozen has been a major influence on this pop culture phenomenon, by directing the Israel Breakdancing Association, and starting his own company, Street Art Productions.

We have featured Rozen and the dancers that he has trained in  a previous post. This year he is collaborating with the hi-tech engineers at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology to act out the complete story of Passover by breakdancing to a light show that brings to life everything from the experience of slavery in Egypt through the ten plagues to crossing the Red Sea.

Enjoy!

Dancing up a Storm to Share Passover with Israel's Needy

Yad Ezra v'Shulamit, an Israeli charity that feeds over 3,000 hungry families a week, has set an ambitious goal for itself as we count down the days to Pesach (Only 5 left to go).

It plans to distribute 20,000 baskets of Passover food this week. To create awareness of the project, it enlisted a talented team of dancers and singer Ari Goldwag to drive the point home.

Last Chanukah we posted a video of Rabbi Ari Goldwag, a prolific writer, lecturer, singer and musician singing Chanukah Lights that got a very good reception from our readers.  He is the featured singer in this new video just released by Yad Ezra v'Shulamit.

While we generally don't solicit donations on this site, we thought the dancing and positive energy emerging from this number justifies its inclusion in our collection of new Passover videos. If Yad Ezra v'Shulamit gets some new contributors because of it, we wish them every success.

Enjoy!

Rosh Hashanah - Time to Get Clarity With the Aish.com Breakdancers

Aish HaTorah, the Israel-based outreach organization, has been using breakdancing as a vehicle for spreading their message. Two years ago they collaborated with a professional breakdance group to record a popular Rosh Hashanah video greeting. This year it looks like they've learned the moves as they create a new breakdance video greeting.

Headquartered in Jerusalem near the Western Wall, Aish.com is a division of Aish HaTorah, an apolitical network of Jewish educational centers in 35 branches on five continents. This partnership enables Aish.com users to experience the richness of community at an Aish branch.

The name Aish HaTorah literally means "Fire of Torah." As Elie Weisel said: "Aish HaTorah means to me the passion of teaching, the passion of learning. The study of Torah, the source of Jewish values, is the way to Jewish survival."

Israeli Yeshiva Boys Do a Chanukah Break Dance

When the administration of Yeshiva Reishit Yerushalayim in Beit Shemesh, Israel wrote in their mission statement that they offer balanced Torah studies and an afternoon break, they weren't kidding. A sense of balance and break, as in break dancing, are very much in evidence in this delightful Chanukah video put together by the Reishit students.

Here are some of the lyrics:

"Those Yevanim (Greeks) thought they could wipe us out.
We're lighting the menorah.
God was on our side which they didn't know about.
We're lighting the menorah.
Jews is what we are and we all unite.
We're lighting the menorah.
Publicize the neis (miracle) with our candlelight.
We're lighting the menorah."

Enjoy! Chag Chanukah Sameach and Shabbat Shalom.
