Jewish Humor Central is a daily publication to start your day with news of the Jewish world that's likely to produce a knowing smile and some Yiddishe nachas. It's also a collection of sources of Jewish humor--anything that brings a grin, chuckle, laugh, guffaw, or just a warm feeling to readers.
Our posts include jokes, satire, books, music, films, videos, food, Unbelievable But True, and In the News. Some are new, and some are classics. We post every morning, Sunday through Friday. Enjoy!
We've been following Elon Gold and posting some of his shtick on Jewish Humor Central for the last 15 years.
Elon is an American comedian, television actor, writer and producer. He starred in
the television series Stacked. He also starred in the short-lived
sitcom In-Laws.
Known for his impressions, including those of Jeff
Goldblum, Howard Stern and Jay Leno, Gold was a judge on
the ABC celebrity impersonation competition series The Next Best Thing.
Gold was also in the movie Cheaper by the Dozen as a cameraman from the
Oprah Winfrey show.
Gold attended the Westchester Day School in Mamaroneck, NY
and the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy (MTA)/Yeshiva University High School
for Boys in Manhattan, NY. He is a practicing Orthodox Jew.
Today
we're sharing a video clip of Gold on stage in a short bit of
observational comedy about two Jewish holidays that are not fun and what would happen if we had one holiday when the "Do Not's" become "Do's".

Today
we're sharing a video clip from his TV special Chosen and Taken that includes observations about Starbucks baristas, old movie stars, and ethnic neck motions.
On June 27 Comedian Elon Gold introduced Entertainer Matisyahu prior to the screening, and Q & A, of Matisyahu's film, "Song of Ascent" premiering at the 2024 L.A. Jewish Film Festival at the Saban Theater in Los Angeles.
During the introduction, Gold included an impersonation of Donald Trump and commented on accusations that Jews are colonizers, saying that his zayde was a colonizer of bungalow colonies in the Catskills.
Elon Gold
has always been one of our favorite young stand-up comics. A practicing
Orthodox Jew who attended Westchester Day School and Yeshiva University
High School, he performs for Jewish and for general audiences. His Jewish routines tend to be family-friendly, and his general routines not so.
In his comedy special Chosen and Taken, Gold unleashed his sharp, biting humor. His manic wit transcends race and religion to celebrate the absurd things people do.
In this video clip, he contrasts the differences between Whites, Blacks, Italians, Jews, Asians, and Latinos.

Jewish sketch comedy has arrived, live in comedy clubs and in videos posted on You Tube. A good example of this new comedy, focused mainly on the Modern Orthodox Jewish community, is the comedy trio of Eli Lebowicz, Ami Kozak, and Mikey Greenblatt, who created J-Sketch.
Last week they shared the stage of The Seven Crest, an event space in Teaneck, New Jersey, with four other stand-up comedians for an evening of laughter.
In today's video, the comedy trio is joined by veteran Jewish comedian Elon Gold in an all too realistic sketch. It's a new employee explaining the Jewish holiday schedule to bosses for whom the seemingly endless requests for days off to observe holidays is a not so welcome surprise.
Many of us have had this experience in our own careers and will find it very relatable and funny, especially when viewing it as an outside observer.

He
performs in comedy clubs and has appeared at the annual Just For Laughs
festival in Montreal, Canada. We're sharing a video clip of a presentation he made to and Israeli audience, explaining why most Jews don't speak Hebrew.
Why, indeed? Because after spending 15 years in a Yeshiva day school and Jewish camps, he was never taught conversational Hebrew. So finding himself in a hotel in Israel and not being able to come up with the Hebrew words for "Late checkout" Gold ridicules his own inability to apply his Hebrew knowledge to everyday situations.

Comedian Elon Gold has the unique ability to find comedy in everyday activities, like the prayers we say in synagogue on special occasions. Commonly called Benching Gomel, saying the prayer Birkat Hagomel, which is said publicly after recovering from a serious illness or returning from a dangerous journey, can sound funny if it is said after a non-threatening experience such as returning from a kosher cruise or a luxury Passover vacation in Mexico. Gold mocks people who say the prayer after these experiences and calls the practice "Gomel abuse." Enjoy! A SPECIAL NOTE FOR NEW EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS:

The 2019 AEC 15th Annual In Pursuit of
Excellence Gala in Las Vegas featured a comedy bit with stand-up comedian Elon Gold and Adelson Educational Campus senior Rosie Polonsky. The duo put on a skit highlighting the fun that can result from saying words that have totally different meanings in Hebrew and English. A classic example: Mi means who, who means he, he means she. And so it goes, on and on, bringing back memories of Abbott and Costello's famous "Who's on first?" routine.
The Adelson Educational Campus is an academically invigorating
Preschool-through-Grade-12 independent private school based on Jewish
values and identity. Thriving on two closely connected schools located
on one state-of-the-art campus, it carefully nurtures the youngest
preschoolers and guides them, step-by-step, to become intelligent,
compassionate, proactive young adults. Enjoy!
