Comedy Down Memory Lane: Myron Cohen on the Ed Sullivan Show (1964)

It's too bad that so few videos of Myron Cohen's witty and clean stand-up comedy survive and have surfaced on the internet. Cohen, who started out as a salesman telling jokes to his customers, became one of the most frequent guests on The Ed Sullivan Show, where his Yiddish-accented observations delighted general audiences.

Of course he appeared in the Catskills, which gave a boost to his career and that of so many Jewish comedians. It's of special significance to us this week, as we head up to Kutsher's to share the best of Jewish Humor Central with the hotel's guests.

Here's a video clip of a Myron Cohen routine on the Sullivan show in 1964.

Enjoy!

  1. Myron Cohen once did a bit on Ed Sullivan, Fifty Ways to Say "Oy." And then he pronounced the word that many times with a slightly different inflection for each one and "translate" it." Talk about HIP! Obviously one has to see rather than read it. Alas, not on youtube. Maybe it wasn't quite fifty---not sure---but a lot. Even if it was only twenty, still a verrrrry funny concept.
