Jewish Humor Central is a daily publication to start your day with news of the Jewish world that's likely to produce a knowing smile and some Yiddishe nachas. It's also a collection of sources of Jewish humor--anything that brings a grin, chuckle, laugh, guffaw, or just a warm feeling to readers. Our posts include jokes, satire, books, music, films, videos, food, Unbelievable But True, and In the News. Some are new, and some are classics. We post every morning, Sunday through Friday. Enjoy!
This is an old hackneyed joke, usually told about a new young priest who is invited to the rectory for dinner by the senior priest. He can't help but notice that the father superior has very beautiful live-in housekeeper and wonders if the father superior might have given in to temptation and violated his vow of celibacy. When one of the sterling silver spoons is missing after the dinner and can't be found, a week later the father superior writes to the new priest and asks if he had taken it, and the younger priest writes back that if the father superior had slept in his own bed any night that week he would have found it under his pillow. The only thing different about that joke now is that anyone hearing it 50 years ago would have automatically assumed that the beautiful live-in housekeeper was a woman.
